As part of PFSCL’s work with the Fans Conference at Portsmouth, we would like to draw your attention to the odd bit of news, and upcoming events:
Community matchday mascot
The Pompey Supporters Trust, working in partnership with the Fans Conference and Portsmouth Football Club are proud to announce the first of their "Community Pompey" projects – The Community Matchday Mascot.
The Community Matchday Mascot project provides a mascot place to children who otherwise may not have the opportunity to take part in the game experience at Fratton Park. The project launches at the Leicester City game on the 26th November 2011. These children have been identified with the help of Pompey Sports and Education Foundation and Portsmouth City Council and its hoped that we can give them a great day out.
The Trust approached the playing squad of Portsmouth Football Club who have kindly agreed to sponsor the Community Matchday Mascot project. This means that not only will the child chosen be the Community Mascot at a home game, they will get to keep the full Pompey kit they wear on the day. The kits can also be numbered up with the child’s favourite player or their own name and the number of their choice. This will be paid for by the players. Furthermore, the supporters groups (including PFSCL) and online websites that make up the Fans Conference have also agreed to donate a sum of money for each game to buy a goody bag of PFC items for the mascot as an additional gift to help make the day truly special. The Trust is sponsoring the first and each Fans Conference group will take it in turns to supply the goody bag.
This ties in with the Trusts vision of "Community Pompey" – The Club and players, The Fans, The local Community all coming together to do something tangible, worthwhile and beneficial for members of our great City. The Community Matchday Mascot is the first of a number of projects that the Trust, in partnership with the Fans Conference, will be launching over the coming weeks.

| "Who are we, who are we, who are we?"
2011 marks the 60th year of the Portsmouth FC Supporters Club in London - 1951 being the year that the original committee first met on the terraces of Craven Cottage, at a Pompey away game (see our history article if you want to know more about how we started). But who are we and what do we do?
Essentially we're a group of like-minded souls, who, despite being exiled from the fairer side of Hampshire, like to feel connected in some way to Portsmouth Football Club and its fans. Of course there is the occasional fruitcake who follows Pompey for no other reason than the fact they were once shown a video of a Pompey game/fans by their primary school teacher, despite having never lived south of Islington and their Dad being a die hard Gooner, but we won't go there! We are what it says on the tin, Pompey fans who are connected to both London and PFC. I say connected rather than live, as most of our members actually live outside the M25. Some live oop north, some reside in East Anglia or the west country, whilst others are even more further afield in China and Australia. The reason they are members, or so we're told, is that we're a friendly bunch who enjoy the fact that we support an unfashionable team in a city dominated by the Premier League prawn sandwich munchers; even when we were in the Premier League, I always got a sense we weren’t wanted.
So, what do we do? Well if you speak to some, they might say ‘very little’ whilst others might be a little more forgiving and say we don’t do too bad when it matters. You really have to judge for yourselves but, to give you a flavour of what we get up to, here’s a few things we’ve done in the last year: - run regular competitions for home match tickets - given out prizes such as: signed copies of Linvoy’s biography; chances to take a behind the scenes tour of the ground, and to present our Player of the Season with his trophy on the pitch at Fratton Park. - put out newsletters, and ‘The Chimes’ (our London Pompey fanzine) - held a pool and darts match against the London Saints (I won’t mention the score) - purchased a commemorative brick in the wall at Fratton Park, to mark our 60th year - written articles for the PFC website and match programme - represented our members at the new Fans’ Conference, made up of Pompey supporters across the country - made a donation towards the Pompey Fans Day - produced a 6oth Anniversary badge
With all that in mind I think it’s pretty safe to say we are working to get the Supporters Club moving in the right direction. If you’d like to join, or learn some more, please get in touch via the Contact form. Alternatively, you might find some of us on the forums at www.pompeyonline.com
